- How to make money blogging for beginners?
- Types of blogs that make money?
- Make money wordpress?
- Top money making blogs?
- How much money can you make blogging?
- How to make money with wordpress in 48 hours?
- Best blogging platform to make money?
- How to make money blogging?
I cover the above topics specially because these are most common questions that get asked to me when bloggers seek my advise. I will also cover the topics from beginner, intermediate and advanced level of bloggers. I will tell you unique ways by using which other bloggers are currently earning a full time income.
Do note all of the information shared is for authority websites on which you shall be working for months and years. This is not about micro niche websites which have 3-4 pages and are never update for the rest of time. Google can start to penalize micro niche websites anytime due to lower content value that these website are general. My advise, a website should have minimum 500 articles in the long term and 100 in the short term to earn an income which can give you all the luxuries of this world (How difficult does it seem to you)?
While blogging start as a hobby for most of the established blog owners, with time it has turned a full time income for them by working few hours from their home. Most of these bloggers have left their jobs and are now having own team to help grow their blogs. A few examples are wpbeginner.com, playtivities.com, herpackinglist.com etc.
With the onset of platforms like WordPress and Blogger, it is so easy to start a blog for everyone.
For beginners, the best choice is signup on Bluehost and create their hosting account. Install wordpress on your hosting which takes less than 2 minutes and you have a blog ready for yourself.
How much money do bloggers make?
If we talk about how much others are making from blogging then it all depends on how much content, the type of niche, search rankings, traffic, monetization of the website. I have personally seen people earn $1.5Million per year from websites and this can go as low as $100 per year.
The best advise for bloggers that I can give is to make as much content as possible. Content will bring people to you who you can then monetize. Monetizing traffic is easier than bringing traffic to your web property. The more serious you are in writing quality content, the better growth for you.
Blogging Ideas to Make Money – Blog about your life and make money
New topics come and go every year. When starting a blog, you don’t want to enter an area which is difficult to succeed in. You need an area where less content is live online and then you get noticed easily.
Blogging about your life is also a good idea. We all go through various niches everyday like food, travel, parenting, self improvement etc. When you get visitors to your blog where you talk about your daily life, these visitors are going to become your fan and will all your future blogs too. On YouTube, this same thing is called vlog. I would recommend that if you can do, go for both a blog as well as vlog.
Other niches/topics for blogging which you can pursue are:
- Mobile Apps
- Social Media Growth
- News/Trending Topics
The more value you add as a blogger to the readers life, the more growth are you going to see. Googles algorithm are also geared for better user experience. So any secret trick that may be working today may not work in future. If you are in for long term in the blogging industry then always go for providing value to the visitors to your blog.
Should you start a blog or vlog?
If you can manage, go for both. Do not worry if you are not good at both of them. You will learn with time. While blogging requires you to have a basic computer with MS Word or Google Docs, vlogging requires you to have a recording equipment as well video editing skills.
This means that vlogging will consume more time than blogging on the same topic. What you can do is create text and video content both for a given topic that you pick up.
Both bloggers and vloggers have a number of income sources available. With vlogging however, one is tied only using Adsense because YouTube doesn’t allow third party ad networks on videos.
How bloggers make money from blogs?
Like I said before also, bringing traffic is more difficult than monetizing the blog. However in this section I share all the current ways by which blogs can earn income. Not every method is suited for every blog and you should try each method for 1-2 months before replacing it with the next one.
- Display Ads like AdSense, Mediavine or AdThrive
- Affiliate marketing
- Sell Digital/Info Products
- Native Advertising or Matched Content Ads
- Digital Courses
- Sell Direct Advertisement to Brands
- Sponsored Product Reviews
- Sell Your Services
1. Display Ads: (Beginners)
You must have seen websites which are loaded with ads. I would never recommend doing that. Adding so many ad placements makes your website look a giant ad to the visitors and to search engines also. Place ads strategically for optimum earnings.
When it comes to display ads, there are so many ad networks as listed below. I would advise you go with the first two of them. If it is not viable to join the first two then think of other ad networks.
- Google AdSense (Offered by Google)
- Ezoic Ads
- Propeller Ads
All of the above ad networks require you to get approval from them before you can run their ads on your blog. All of them have policies around what content can be monetized. Violence, Abuse and Adult related content is generally not accepted by major ad networks.
While Adsense will look at the content of your blog for giving approval, other ad networks have minimum threshold of traffic levels which your website must have. Some even ask for minimum number of USA people visiting your website specifically.
For me, I mainly rely on Adsense for my 10 websites and the following screenshot shows my All time earnings:
2. Affiliate Marketing: (Most Successful): Intermediate + Advanced
Affiliate based ads are gain popularity these days. More and more bloggers are opting into affiliate programs of various companies. The reason is that while a click on display ad will definitely give you a dollar or two, affiliate link clicks wont give definite money but have the potential of earning 40 to 50 times the display ad clicks.
I highly encourage you to explore affiliate programs in your niche and recommend products to your audience in the content that you create.
For YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, you can place affiliate links is video description and speak about the link in the video content.
Here are some of the popular Affiliate marketing marketplace that you could join:
I have seen people use affiliate marketing on social media and via emails too. You can send display ads to another person in an email but you can send your affiliate links to people in emails.
Another point to note about affiliate marketing vs display ads is that while most ad networks will suspend your account for driving traffic from paid ads, it is ok to run Facebook ads to a landing page which has your affiliate link.
Affiliate marketing is the way, how a lot of bloggers are making millions of dollars every year from their blog.
3. Sell Digital Products (eBooks/Software/Audio): Intermediate
The next step to affiliate ads is to sell your own products. The difference here is that you keep all the profit margin instead of getting just a commission. But you also need to provide customer support and their also the need to create the product and setup payment gateway.
If you can manage all of the above then I would recommend you to go with your own products. The online world is not limited to only physical products. Digital products in the form of ebooks, software, apps and podcast are also good options to sell.
As info products have become popular, the creation of them has also become easier due to the tools available online. You can even use PLR (Private Label Rights) products which give you full rights to editing them as per your brand and sell them on your blog.
If you cannot handle payments then upload your ebook to Kindle Direct program by Amazon and direct your audience to your ebook page.
I have setup some ebooks in Fitness niche on Amazon KDP and I used Fiverr services for design the ebook cover. It was blazing fast and much cheaper for me.
If you want to sell physical products then you can either opt for Shopify which also allows you to add blog posts. Or you can add Woocommenrce plugin to your WordPress website.
4. Native Advertising or Matched Content Ads
Matched content also known as native advertisements that are usually placed in the bottom of your article. They mix up with your related posts resulting in high number of clicks on ads. Due to their appearance similar to your content, they are known as native ads.
Not all ad networks have the native ads placement, the following ad networks will help you get native ad placement unit:
- Outbrain (High-quality native ads)
- AdSense (AdSense also offers native ads with name as content match ads)
5. Digital Courses or Create Membership Site : Advanced Level
Video content is in demand these days. Everyone wants to listen to the educational material than reading it. So if they can get a comprehensive series of videos on all sub-topics related to a single topic then they will pay for it.
You can promote your video course inside your content or in sidebar of the website. The video courses are much better than creating audio. You may or may not show your face in the course, it is up to you.
You can use course hosting platforms like:
- LearnDash (WordPress)
- New Kajabi
6. Sell Direct Advertisements to Brands : Intermediate
In the past, I have tied up with a company to post their banner on the header of this website. They would pay me fixed monthly income for running the banner ad. This is different from Adsense. Adsense would show an ad based user’s browsing history where as no information about the user is collected and he is shown a banner ad every time.
In my experience, direct advertisement is way better than using Adsense. This is because you get more control over the ads in terms of negotiation and customization.
There are solutions like AdClerks, BuySellAds which allow to secure the direct advertisement deal for you on the basis of some hidden commission. You can also try to add the plugin named WPAdvancedAds on your WordPress.
A related tip when communicating with the companies is to use your website based email address which looks like sales@<website.com>. It adds more authority to your application.
7. Product Reviews (Sponsored) : All Levels
These reviews just like paid posts on Instagram. Someone pays you for posting their product on your website. You write a detailed review of the product and make it as a recommended product from your side which solves problems. The higher amount of traffic your website gets, the costlier the paid review should be.
For finding the companies who want paid product reviews for themselves, you can check the following list:
- Famebit (For YouTube channels)
- Izea Pay per post
8. Sell Services
When you write in a niche, you become better at it and hence you become expert. The audience looks at you having authority in that niche.
This is the opportunity to sell your services. It can be as easy as a consulting call on Skype. The more complex could be you meeting in person with the customer and do their work for money. One case study could be when you go to a customer’s garden and set it up to look beautiful.
The charges for these service can go from $100 to $5000. This is the best way to get clients for your services business.
You can setup a contact form where people can put in their requests for services and can also pay an amount in advance. You can also place a banner in the sidebar or header of your website.
When selling services, it helps if you list your contact number to take on direct sales inquires.
